GPAI Summit 2023: an Overview of Industry-Focused Side Events

The summit featured a multitude of initiatives such as a research symposium, where Indian and international researchers presented their actionable responsible AI theses to the community, the AI Gamechangers Ceremony which awarded startups contributing to the responsible AI ecosystem, and a wide panel of industry-focused sessions.

Among those, five were hosted by CEIMIA. They focused on ‘Data Spaces: From Concept to Territorial Implementation’ which translates by territorial implementation of trustworthy data governance and ‘Scaling Responsible AI Solutions’, where one of the teams that participated in the 2023 edition of this GPAI programme presented the challenges that they faced in developing RAI solutions. On day 2 of the Summit, our team also hosted ‘AI’s Transformational Path: India and Africa Unite for Sustainable Development’, a session about cooperation between developing countries which explored real-world examples of effective cooperation on AI and AI. A session that resulted in fruitful discussions and perspectives of collaboration between India and Africa. On day 3, we hosted two other side sessions. One on AI governance and multilateralism, where government representatives were invited to reflect on what concrete progress is achievable given the stakeholders’ differing priorities and approaches to AI regulation, and one on harmful content moderation in the context of social media.

On its part, the Paris Centre of Support (hosted at INRIA Paris) planned 3 key side sessions on: AI production networks and fair working conditions that need to be established, Generative AI and what it means for the workplace, and the AI Maturity Index (AIMIND) Framework developed by Experts of the Industry and Commercialisation WG to facilitate AI readiness of SMEs.

A few other interesting sessions included ‘Harnessing the power of Data Responsibly’, ‘AI for Climate Action: Accelerating Sustainable Solutions’, ‘AI and Sustainable Agriculture: Towards Global Food Security’, ‘AI Education and Skilling: Bridging the Talent Gap’, ‘AI and Intellectual Property: Protecting Innovation’, ‘Mitigating Social Risk For Safe and Resilient Society’, ‘AI and Global health- Role of AI in advancing healthcare’ and ‘AI for All – Bridging the Global AI divide’.
